I'm not sure if this is something you'd play. It's a 1st person dungeon crawling RPG for the DS/3DS (like Wizardry from 1981, but with more pixels). The games do not focus on the story much, but when you do get that ocasional event or new info, it is often really dark (something you couldn't know based on the moe art style). The main focus lies in the battles and battle mechanics. There are a lot of classes, and even subclasses, each which their own skill tree, making the gameplay really diverse. Pefect if you are into that sort of thing. It'll definitely offer more diversity than Star Warfare.
Plus, there's one of the best soundtracks out there, made by the legendary Yuzo Koshiro (the composer for Streets of Rage). The older ones on the DS will have a brilliant FM soundtrack made using the Sega Genesis chip, while the newer offer both music with real instruments and FM remixes of those version.
No, I haven't heard of that series, and if I have it certainly slipped my mind. Personally, only 3DS games I play are Pokemon and Fire Emblem. Often the reason I play RPGs is for the story, so if a RPG lacks in that department I often tend to ignore it. The songs were alright, they definately feel retroesque.
I personally never liked the 3DS Pokemon games (DS and fan made ones like Pokemon: Reborn were great), but Fire Emblem? Oh yeaaah. I've been a fan since the first one on the GBA, and I was glad I got FE Fates: Birthlight instead of Conquest once I heard how brutal it is.
By the way, the story in Etrian isn't really bad, it's just that you need to grind a lot, in order to beat the main bosses and proceed with it. In fact, Etrian 3 even has 3 seperate routes with 3 different endings (and I'd say it's the best one of all the games, in terms of story, gameplay, and music).
I'm glad you liked the music. It may not be as good as Persona 5's or Nier Automata's OST, but it is definitely one of the best for the DS and 3DS. Yuzo Koshiro is a musical god, and even thought the series is not well known or will sell well, he still tries his hardest to make some epic songs.
EDIT: Forgot the most important thing, it's an Atlus series.
Speaking of musical gods, that's nice example of grandayy's memery. Only he can combine 2 different songs and make it sound perfect. Especially if one of them is We Are Number One or Shooting Stars.
Eh, my friend got Conquest, and after telling me what happens in it I regret buying Birthright instead. Still, I prefer Revelations for the simple issue it is probably the "true" path even though you need to buy even more DLC to find out who is Corrin's father or why the Awakening children are in Fates to begin with. Although I admit it was hilarious when my friend was telling me he was going to marry male Corrin (eww), and Azura and me telling him to not to. "Why not?" "Because they're cousins!!!"
